- With the issues of Harvard's primers, we have decided to install the core into the Ball Tomorrow. No use waiting for their primers to be tested, as nothing seems to work.
- Will set up CTD with the RTD pass-through on Tuesday so we can test the wand temperature code before Brent leaves. Scott has seen that voltages get passed through the CTD, but haven't been able to do any more extensive testing.
- ISUS and ISMS are supposed to be ready June 1. Doug has spoken with Luke, and we will use their 2000m rated probe heads. The chamber water must flow through is quite small, which will restrict flow to all instruments downstream, using our new wand flow setup. Thus, will mount ISMS in parallel to ISUS; Doug figures 80% of flow will go through ISMS, rest through ISUS.
- Satellite Beacon on D-ESP.
- Issue: If ship must leave ESP and while we're gone, D-ESP rises to surface. Current radio link is for close proximity only (1-2mi). Several Options:
-
- Make recall of D-ESP only with ROV pull release, no acoustic drop-wt recall. This several lessens chance of unintended lift-off.
- Could mount ARGOS beacon to elevator. Ken Smith may have one we could borrow. Will ask when they return tomorrow.
- Could mount Iridium tracker to elevator.
-
-
- Both ARGOS and Iridium cost ~$4K, and have a small monthly data-plan charge.
Travel Plans
- Arrivals to Newport: Chris P getting there July 8, engineers getting there July 9 or 10. MOB the 11th. Shove off 12th.
- Departures: We've been told ship will return to port at 4pm, July 23. Probably not enough time to unload and make it back to Portland that day given the afternoon arrival. Teresa says we will be allowed to remain on ship the evening of the 23rd. Thus, de-mob on 24th, and make return plans for that day. Bill staying until 25th to load truck and see equipment off.
WHOI
- The ESP Bruce story being told here.
- WHOI working feverishly to finish ESP-Chris mount and to test their buoy. Should know how/if it works by middle of next week.

we should put a sat tracker on the D-ESP - worth the $ if we can't borrow one.
